Generals is a real-time strategy video game for PC, released on February 28, 2003. It is the fifth video game in the Command & Conquer series and was followed by another console/PC installment, 2003's Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour. In this step of our Command and Conquer 3 walkthrough we will be going into how to change the options found in the Options.ini file before you create a new multiplayer account. Take your time reading through this section of our walkthrough carefully because it will teach you important parts of understanding how multiplayer works for Command and Conquer 3, something that can take years to figure out on your own or even with tutorials like the ones found at http://www. community-wiki.net/wiki/CNC3_tutorials. Before creating your multiplayer account you will need to change the options in the Options.ini . To do this run the game with the "-t" (test) option in your command line (if you are using Windows, right click on Command & Conquer 3 Generals - Zero Hour - Single Player and select "Run as Administrator". If you are using Linux, you'll just have to type "./Command & Conquer 3 Generals - Zero Hour - Single Player"). The game will then enter test mode after a few moments of preparation. To get into Options window, either press "/" or hit Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows. Make your changes and then press "F9" to save in a blank .ini file in a location of your choice. Once you have saved the blank .ini file in a location of your choosing you can then rename it with any name you'd like, but make sure it's not inside a folder when you do since the game won't recognize it if there are files inside a folder called Options.ini . If you want to test options, simply go back into test mode by hitting "/" or pressing Ctrl+Shift+O again and then just hitting enter when the window pops up. Here is an example for each option: SenseMemoryRate=0. 06 This option controls the sensitivity of units when they detect enemy units. The higher the number, the more sensitive they will be to enemy units. MaxReceivedDataRate=80 This option controls how fast units receive data. The higher the number, the faster they receive data. The lower it is, the slower they receive data. This only applies to units who are in game mode or skirmish mode since in single player mode all unit gains are made instantaneously, therefore this function has no use in single player mode. MinReceivedDataRate=10 This option controls how much data is required before a unit accepts new orders. The higher the number, the less data that is required before a unit accepts new orders. The lower the number, the more data that is required before a unit accepts new orders. NXTayRate=0. 50 This option controls how fast units gain experience. The higher the number, the faster units will gain experience. The lower it is, the slower they will gain experience. This only applies to units who are in game mode or skirmish mode since in single player mode all unit gains are made instantaneously, therefore this function has no use in single player mode. NXTameRate=1. 0 This option controls how fast units mature when given command points (CP).
